Most anticipated albums for 2010-11.

Since Porcupine Tree and Muse just released new albums last year, that probably rules them out of this list.

However, there's couple of bands I've waited long to release new material. Some of my alltime favorite bands even.

1. OPETH

Opeth is a legendary Progressive Metal/Rock band from Sweden that started out in 1990. At first their music was influenced by mostly Death Metal but later on they started to incorporate influences from progressive music from the 60's and 70's like Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Camel among others, they also combine jazz, blues rock and ambient to their unique sounding progressive music.

Opeth was one of my main influences to start playing guitar and generally to listen to progressive rock music, many people discard them because they are often tagged "death metal" but people who decide to disregard their image and actually listen their music find out that it's unlike anything they've heard before.

The main things I like about Opeth are their poetic lyrics and complicated guitar structures, often there are 2 different acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass and drums on a single track, and the singer Mikael Åkerfeldt utilizing both clean vocals and "death metal growls" often both in the same track, it's amazing and so atmospheric.

Even if you don't like metal or rock, I'm sure there's something in Opeth's music that you can appreciate, it's so varied.

Their last album was released in 2008 and it wasn't as heavy as the previous albums, concentrating more on the progressive rock elements. There has been so far no word of when the next album will be released, but the good guess is on early 2011 or fall 2011.

Opeth - Burden One of their most beautiful songs, from the newest album Watershed.

Opeth - Harvest from album Blackwater Park.

Opeth - The Drapery Falls from album Blackwater Park.

2. TOOL

What can be said about Tool? They're fucking amazing, they're a rock band from the United States that formed also in 1990. In their long career they have incorporated many musical styles, starting in Heavy Metal sound, moving to Alternative Metal and Hard Rock eventually to more progressive and experimental direction. They are known of their complex progressive musical structures and lyrical themes ranging from often controversial philosophical to social matters.

They're also known of their elaborate live shows and unorthodox music videos.

It's been 4 years since their last album 10,000 Days was released. So with any luck, we'll hear more of them in the near future!

Tool - Hooker with a Penis from the album Aenima.

Tool - Vicarious from the album 10,000 Days.

3. BLACKFIELD

Blackfield is a sideproject of Porcupine Tree's frontman Steven Wilson and Israeli Singer-Songwriter Aviv Geffen. They've currently released 2 albums, Blackfield (2004) and Blackfield II (2007) and also a live recording of their NYC show.

Their music is melancholic and progressive rock. Being that Steven is british and Aviv is Israeli, their collaboration brought an interesting mix of different cultures and musical interests together, creating what I think are one of the best melancholic rock songs in recent memory.

Many fans are thinking a new album should be released during this or next year however uncofirmed sources tell that Steven said there wont be a new album before 2012. To tell the truth, Steven is quite a workaholic, as he has multiple projects to undertake, his second solo album, work with PT, No-Man and Blackfield, it shouldn't be surprising if the third Blackfield album takes time to make, but we'll see. Only time will tell.

Blackfield - Once (Live in NYC)

Blackfield - My Gift of Silence (Live in NYC)

Blackfield - Blackfield
